The basics
What is a clipper?
'Clipper' is a job title that barely existed five years ago. A clipper takes long content — a stream, a podcast, a song, a product video — cuts the best 20 to 60 seconds out of it, and posts that clip on their own social accounts for money.
What a clipper actually does
Watch the source material, find the moment that works on its own, cut it vertically, add captions, write a hook, post it, submit the link. The skill isn't editing software — it's judgement about which ten seconds make a stranger stop scrolling.
- Find the moment, not the whole video
- Vertical framing and burned-in captions
- A hook in the first second
- Follow the campaign's rules exactly
Who clippers work for
Streamers who can't cut their own eight-hour broadcasts. Podcasters with hours of good takes nobody hears. Musicians pushing a release. Brands that want reach without an agency retainer. They fund a pot, publish payout tiers, and pay per verified view instead of per hour.
What clippers get paid
Per verified view, against tiers published before you post. There's no hourly rate and no retainer — a clip that does nothing earns nothing, and a clip that travels can claim a large share of a pot. That cuts both ways, which is why picking the right campaign matters as much as the edit.
What you need to start
A phone, a free editing app, and at least one social account you can prove you own. No follower minimum, no portfolio, no interview.
Questions people ask
Is clipping a real job?
For a growing number of people, yes — though it's performance-paid, not salaried. You're paid for the views your clips get.
Do I need editing experience?
No. Most clippers work in free phone apps. Judgement about what's interesting matters more than software skill.
Can I use content that isn't mine?
Only source material a campaign has licensed to you for that campaign, and only within its rules.
How do clippers get discovered?
They don't need to be — campaigns are open to join, so you pick the work rather than waiting to be hired.
